Snow Report 3 February 2014 - French & Italian Alps

G'day from Australia where it most certainly is not snowy. A big fat opposite, in fact, very hot and dry.

Yes, sadly the Italian sojourn and endless winter has come to a ... well, to an end! The days of powder, pasta, and proseccos on the pistes (try saying that when you've had a few!) are no more.

Yet, there is lots of skiing to come for those lucky enough to be in or near the Alps. School holidays are approaching and the resorts will be gearing up for the February crowds.

The story of the season continues with the southern French Alps and the Italian Alps rolling through an incredible, record season. Great snowfalls in these areas (up to 1 metre again this week), but temperatures have been warm in places, so higher areas have done better. More snow this week everywhere!

Here are current conditions at selected French and Italian ski resorts:

Isola 2000 - 210cms at the village level (2000m) and 300cms up high.
Val Thorens - 95cms in Val Thorens village (2300m) and 175cms on the upper slopes (3200m).
Val D'Isere - 92cms@1850m, 160cms@2500m.

Valchiavenna - 250cms in the village of Madesimo (1550m) to 400cms on the summit (2900m)
