Snow Report 18 March 2016 - Europe & Japan

Happo One 16.03.16 - Happo Facebook
JAPAN

Spring is here! Mixed weather across Japan with snow one day and warm temperatures the next. (Nozawa Onsen was reporting 16c at the base of the lifts today).

On Honshu it looks like raining from today and into the weekend. This should turn to snow on Saturday night.

Hokkaido is looking at a similar set-up, but with a quicker change to snow and persistent snowfalls following.

A lot of snow has been lost from the lower slopes in the last few weeks. The peak snow depths have past.

Niseko (Grand Hirafu) - 140cm@base.

Zao Onsen - 40cm@base (954m), 130cm up high (1387m).

Nozawa Onsen - 35cm@base (660m), 145cm at Yamabiko (1615m).

Myokokogen (Akakan) - 160cm

Hakuba (Happo One) - 10cm@Base, 170cm at Usagadaira.

Dynaland - 140cm.

Val Thorens 10.03.16 - Trois Vallees Facebook
FRANCE

Mainly fine going into the weekend with a chance of some light snow on Sunday in the French Alps. The light winds should make conditions nice for being out on the slopes.

The snow cover is holding up very well and most of the big resorts have the majority of their lifts running:

Chamonix (Grands Montets) 215cm@1972m

Val d'Isere 150cm@1850m

Les Arcs 125cm@1600m.

Val Thorens 180cm@2300m

Serre Chevalier 150cm@2100m
Isola 2000 17.03.16 - Isola 2000 Facebook

Isola 2000 125cm@2000m

ITALY

A top-up of snow arrived midweek. Similar to France, a little snow may again arrive on Sunday in the west but mainly fine conditions.

In the east it will be gloriously sunny with light winds ... perfect cruising and for afternoon drinks.

Monte Rosa (60/140cm).

Madonna di Campiglio (95cm@1500m).

Val Gardena 50cm@1500m
