Very warm days this week but thankfully clear of rain ... so far! Snow loss has not been too bad.

After a mild night, the weather changes today with some rain arriving in Victoria this morning, spreading east. This will turn to snow later.

The sooner the colder air arrives the more snow will fall overnight. It will be interesting to see how much we get!

Snow Report 11 August 2016 - Australia & New Zealand

The next week or so will determine how long the Australian 2016 ski season continues into Spring. The snow level has been pretty high this year, making the lower slopes somewhat marginal and very vulnerable to warm, rainy days.
Mt Hotham 11.08.16 - Hotham Facebook

AUSTRALIA

The weekend was warm and mainly sunny, contributing to snow melt again. Again!

The snow depth numbers below only tell part of the story as it gets very patchy as you move down the mountain from where those measurements are taken.

This is turning into a season of what could have been, with great cover up high, but just a few storms or colder temperatures away from getting the cover complete over the whole mountain.

After a warm start to the week, rain arrived Tuesday night, turning to snow into Wednesday in Victoria for a few cms. Later on Wednesday, more snow fell bringing 5-10cm to the Victorian ski resorts and 3-5cm in NSW.

Perhaps another light snowfall early this weekend before a period of clear weather.

Mt Baw Baw - Snow depth: 8-20cm

Mt Buller - 4cm overnight at Buller. Snow depth: 57-95cm

Thredbo - 5cm snow fell overnight at Thredbo and all 14 lifts are open.
